Understand that local stations pour a ton of resources (relatively) into their nightly news shows. To watch the audience you sweat blood to rope in for the 11pm slot completely disappear by 11:45 has to be disheartening. I know for a fact that radio stations fired talk show hosts who could not hold onto Rush Limbaugh’s audience in sufficient numbers. Watch what comes next in that space — I would not be surprised to see networks: A) abandon the time slot entirely as celebrity podcasts outrun the format B) move to Japanese style goofy game shows in search of a post Boomer audience.
