Trump 1.0 had the worst legislative affair ops in my adult lifetime. But that was probably unavoidable as Paul Ryan and all of Con Inc. never forgave him for winning the Republican nomination let alone claiming the White House. This week Trump 2.0 gave the previous low bar a good run. The headlines were all Trump v. Musk but the important bit is that the administration has consistently signaled that its solution to avoid Trump 1.0 logjams with the Hill is to give Congress whatever it wants. And what this Congress wants is pork and lots of it; roughly half of Green New Deal pork has been green lit, fat socialist states will get subsidized for their high tax regimes via the tax code, the Senate will likely bid up an already obscene $1 trillion “defense” budget. Even a modest $9 billion cut in discretionary spending has been gamed for failure. The House announced the package this week — which includes cuts to PBS and NPR — while also declaring the vote would be next week. We have seen this movie before. Over the weekend members from Purple districts, or even Red suburban districts, will be besieged at home by public broadcasting fanatics and their $20 per donation tote bags. Come next week House leadership will “discover” that they Do Not Have the Votes for the rescission package, Gosh Darn It. We Tried. Just absurd.
When Mom and Dad fight the kids always hate it. Smart people know you never have any idea what a jury is going do, even if you are in the courtroom with them every single day. Having said that, I have no idea what the prosecution is up to in the Diddy Combs case. Three weeks into it and DOJ seems intent on calling bad people to the stand to tell the jury that Diddy is worse. Slight exaggeration:
AUSA: What were you doing?
Govt Witness: Smoking crack.
AUSA: And what did Diddy do?
Govt Witness: Called me a bitch.
It almost seems as if DOJ did not really expect to have to go to trial. I cannot wait until the defense starts calling its witnesses.
The FBI has zero effective oversight and makes up the rules as it goes along. It absolutely cannot have any counter-terror or counter-intelligence responsibilities going forward.
Every reporter in DC should be asking this question. That they are not is very telling:
